NYT April 6 - 9

Monday: The picture of the grieving family of the deaths from the shooting in upstate NY made me look for all the death in the paper. And most of these deaths are reported in our own country. How can this be? There is so much death now because of these hard times. What really makes me sick are the family members killing family members. I can't imagine... I just... can't. Anyway. The other article on the front page about brain researchers... BAHAH. I laugh outloud at that. Really? Erasing bad experiences from my brain? What ever happened to the expression 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'? And it says it's only experimented on animals and that the drug is "most likely" to work on humans?!! NO thanks! I do NOT like this. You want to cure something? Make something completely go away? Work on the cure for Cancer.

Tuesday: Unfortunately because I was bedridden, and couldn't get any of my roommates to go grab the NYT for me from HamSmith, I had to look online for Tuesday and Wednesday's news. I've noticed that the set-up for the online paper is a lot different than the actual print version. Online they show the bigger headlines that only have to do with Obama, the economy, war, economy, banks, Obama... I mean, is this all anyone wants to read about? I guess I'm not exactly sure what the targeted audience is for the NYT... I suspected just a bunch of businessmen but I know that's not the case. I guess the only big thing that caught my eye was the article about the Italian earthquake that occurred earlier this week. 6.3? I'm not sure of the earthquake lingo.. but I'm pretty sure that is HUGE. It damaged historic buildings, irreversibly I can only imagine. And the death toll stands at 150 with 1500 injured? But there are so many more people missing... ugh. That's absolutely terrible.

Wednesday: I support gay marriage so that is good news that the victories in Iowa and Vermont could potentially have other states doing the same. I don't believe the states down in the bible belt will ever sway towards legalizing gay marriage... but one can only hope they will in the future! I wanted to know what more was going on with the earthquake in Italy so I searched for that. Death roll tolled at 235.. reading about all the bodies pulled from the rubble.. refreshing to hear they pulled someone out alive. Even more refreshing to hear they've pulled 100 people out alive. But then the aftershock? A 5.3 earthquake? 17000 people homeless? These numbers mean nothing to me but are absolutely heartbreaking to read about.

Thursday: Front page- that is what a police station looks like in Afghanistan? No wonder the system is corrupt. Reminds me of the Mexico scandal going on right now. In other news... PIRATES? What? I mean.. obviously they aren't like Captain Hook here, but really, this is scary.. they overtook a ship that large and then took the Captain hostage? Really, really, scary. But the article in the business section on pg B6 about Donna Young was really cool! It's refreshing to hear about people doing well in the worst of economic times. Even cooler that NH was mentioned!! I think what she's doing is really neat... and smart.
