Seventeen year old Jamie Peterson, of Belmont, Massacuhusetts was driving down Mile Hill Rd. when his vehicle suddenly swerved off the road, hit an embankment, and flipped over on it's roof Monday night, trapping two other young female passengers in the vehicle as well.
Josie M. Crandall, an inhabitant of Mill Hill Rd., witnessed the accident and called the authorities immediately. She told police, "I've never seen a car going so fast on this road."
Seventeen year old Tom Carroll Jr. was the first person on the scene. He was driving behind the car when it suddenly spead ahead around a curve. The next time he saw the car it was on it's roof. "I thought the worst. They were flying. It's hard to see kids your age in something like this." Carroll told police that when he looked underneath the car he saw at least three empty beer cans on the ground. It has not been concluded whether or not they play a role in the accident.
Peterson, the driver of the vehicle, was able to crawl out of the car without assistance and was unharmed. Rescuers had to use the jaws of like to free the two female passangers from the crushed car. They were both taken to Memorial Hospital in Belmost where one was deemed to be in stable condition while the other was then airlifted to Mass. General Hospital.
